+ Your moderator didn't receive any Emails about flooded basements as a results of the heavy rains, which is good.
+ Did you know? "Tell a friend about Alert DC! Have them go to alert.ema.dc.gov -or- send an SMS to 32362 from any cell phone."
+ See this request: "I am looking for a cleaning service to clean my property after we move out but before my tenants move in. Can anyone recommend a local (insured) cleaning service? I am seeking an interior cleaning service (not a housekeeper, but an actual licensed service where they come with a team of people and are in and out quickly and efficiently). I need someone to dust the ceilings, clean the inside of my oven and refrigerator, etc. Please email me at shira_udin @ yahoo.com."
+ See this follow-up message about dogs, children & Crispus Attucks Park from a 1st Street NW resident: "I know this message comes a little late, but I've been going thru emails and noticed the comment someone posted a few days back about dogs in Crispus Attuks Park, and the fact that their kids can't play there because of the dogs. I just wanted to say that I love that Bloomingdale has so many dog-owners and dog walkers. I like that they walk their dogs all times of day - especially in the park. I am not a dog owner and I think the dog walkers make our neighborhood safer, because they serve as a walking neighborhood patrol. I don't have kids either, but if I did I probably wouldn't take them to play in Crispus Attucks Park (w/out dogs) because there isn't any sports or recreation equipment there. If neighbors wanted that, then they could put in a "no dog" area with playground equipment...."
+ See this 5/11/2008 message from Robert Brannum, Chair, 5th District Citizens' Advisory Council, posted to the MPD-5D list: "Neighbors, over the weekend there have been five shootings in Ward 5, in the area of 2nd & U Streets, NW, 2nd & R Streets NE, and 1700 North Capitol Street. 5D is investigating these shootings. If you are able to provide any information, I encourage you contact 5D. Calls may be made anonymously to MPD at 1-888-919-CRIME (2746)." And see this subsequent Email from MPD Assistant Chief of Police Diane Groomes, also posted to the MPD-5D list: "The second shooting was in ne quadrant not nw to clarify." Here is 5D Commander Greene's response: "The shootings took place on the NE side of the district. there are no updates at this time. If there is any additional information that any citizens have to offer in reference to these violent acts, please contact the Fifth district immediately 202-698-0111." So it appears that there was no shooting
at or near 2nd & U Street NW over the weekend.

2008 BCA Bloomingdale Home & Garden Tour
The Bloomingdale Civic Association is still looking for a few wonderful locations to display on its 2008 tour of Bloomingdale homes and gardens. Let us help if you've done a wonderful renovation you'd like to show off. We're happy to provide an opportunity to showcase your garden or hardscape design. Is your home a fine representation or remodel of a distinct architectural school or type? Let the rest of us in on the secret and show others why this neighborhood is so special. Add your home or garden to the list of fine specimens on the Bloomingdale Civic Association's Fall Home & Garden Tour! Or let us know if you've seen a really special house and we'll approach the owners to participate.
Proceeds of the Sunday, September 14 tour will go toward the BCA's Scholarship Fund and neighborhood beautification projects, including funds for block beautification efforts.
To add your home or garden to the tour or to volunteer to help, email us at BloomingdaleCA@gmail.com or call 202-462-3737 by July 20, 2008. The rain date for the tour is September 21, 2008.

Hi All,
We're in desparate need of more volunteers for this FRIDAY's Youth Service Day in Crispus Attucks Park. We're looking for adults to supervise small groups of middle school students in their park work projects. Knowledge of gardening is a definite plus, but not required.
The kids from DC Preparatory Academy Charter Middle School will arrive around noon on Friday. If you can help, please call Michelle at 202 - 215 -
